Portsmouth has over 500 creative businesses and a collaboration event is planned for Thursday 31st January 2019 at Portsmouth Guildhall to celebrate the success of this industry as well as debate the challenges for the future to support the city’s accelerated growth in this sector.
Cllr Pitt, Deputy Leader of Portsmouth City Council and portfolio member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, will discuss the importance and energy of the creative industries to the city and the region’s economic growth, to galvanise further collaboration across the sector to support our future City of Culture bid and to build on the culture-led regeneration that has already happened in the city.
Cllr Pitt commented: “The event is a fantastic opportunity for other creative businesses to listen to success stories and receive practical advice from keynote speakers from successful international businesses in the city in film, design and music. It will be an interactive and informal morning. An artist will be on hand to visually capture the discussions of the day and the highlights will be filmed to produce a short video to be shown at future events.”
The Dean of Creative and Cultural Industries at Portsmouth University will be talking about the growth of the faculty and plans for its future and of the success of Portsmouth as a sticky city, as students remain in the area inspired to start their own creative businesses.
This first event will inform further spin off events in the Collaborative Culture Portsmouth series. It will be a chance make new connections to further boost creativity and support growth and funding opportunities.
