Jobs growth in the creative sector is frequently driven by the formation of new businesses; the sector also draws heavily on freelance talent. Many mid-career creatives choose to start up their own business as it can offers greater flexibility and better quality of life. Many new entrants to the sector start their career by freelancing or by undertaking project work. On 25th January an exciting new initiative to support creative entrepreneurs will be launched in Southampton.

The initiative will target people starting new businesses and will include free:
• 1-1 Coaching
• Training Workshops
• Networking Events

Hannah Murphy, a Fareham based dance professional and entrepreneur, participated in a mentoring programme run by creative united in partnership with Creative Network South in 2016. She described her experience in the following way:

“The mentoring I received has given me a new focus on my business. I realised I had to cut my losses with some aspects of my business so I could give my full attention to the areas of the business that are working. The mentoring was a great experience and just what I needed to find clarity.”

Creative Growth Southampton is supported by Creative Network South, The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH), Southampton City Council, Southampton Solent University, Culture Southampton, “aspace” Arts, Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and the Solent Growth Hub.
